A recent report from virtual private network provider SurfShark reported that Google Gemini collects more data than other AI chatbots.

It gathers 22 out of 35 possible data types like precise location data, which only Gemini, Copilot and Perplexity collect.

Also, Gemini collects a significant amount of data across other categories like contact information, user content, search history and browsing history.

This report follows concerns that the Chinese AI bot DeepSeek collects data that the Chinese government may access. 

Surprisingly, DeepSeek ranks 5th among the 10 most popular AI chatbots based on data collection. 

It only collects 11 unique types of data, such as usage data and user content.

Yet, SurfShark warns the public to be wary of their data security when using AI chatbots.

The Hacker News reported that DeepSeek has already experienced a breach.

This incident leaked over 1 million records of API keys, chat history and other information.

Tomas Stamulis, Chief Security Officer at Surfshark, says users should disable their chat history and review privacy settings. 

They should also think twice before sharing sensitive details with an AI chatbot. 

SurfShark conducted this study by analyzing the privacy details of the most popular AI chatbots on the Apple App Store.
